Action Philosophers

Sorry I've been away. So much time, so little to do. Stop. Reserve that. Anyway, I've working on Molly's very own webstie, which should be up and running soon. For now, check out this site, seems interesting. http://wiw.org/~jess/archives/category/geek/

What will I have in common with Rhea Mons

I’m almost done reading The Baby Whisperer , by Tracy Hogg. I have to say that I like the general philosophy that the book tries to promote. Namely, 1) to take your time, 2) respect your baby as an person, 3) have a general structure the day in order to build general habits, 4) everything is harder than we assume, 5) it is possible to understand what your baby is telling you. The book often is vague, but justifies itself by saying that babies, parents, circumstances, and environments are all factors and its impossible to give examples for every possible combination. I really like the idea that Molly is a person, with her own thoughts, rights, and needs. She should be respected and treated as a helpless person and not “the baby”. I’m hoping that one day I might understand what her little and big noises and cries mean. I remember when Abigail was little and it was so frustrating to try to figure out what she wanted. Perhaps if I can figure out just a few of her cries it would be g

Life, the Universe, and Everything

I saw the new commercial for Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy , and I was surprised that it was such a big budget film. I hope they didn’t sacrifice content for special effects. Also, the book (one the first I read, actually I read all five) is a comedy, and the commercial made it sound like an action movie. Douglas Adams wrote the screenplay, which is good. The cast is little odd, Mos Def plays Ford Perfect and its look like there are small roles for John Malkovich and Alan Rickman. My expectation keep changing from, “they are going to screw it all up”, to “how could this not be great.” And for all those who read the book, I only have one thing to say. Forty-two. (interested tidbit, 6 × 9 = 42 if the calculations are performed in base 13 , not base 10 . Douglas Adams was not aware of this at the time, and has since been quoted as saying that "nobody writes jokes in base 13."

Sleepy Hollow

What a week. Lindy, Molly, not-fluffy, and I have finally completed our move out of the city. First, I would like to thank my former apartment and all my former roommates (Dan Welch, Iain , Frankie, and Fluffy X) for all the wonderful memories over the past four years. Growing up I always wanted to live in NYC and I can consider that particular life goal completed. Our new apartment is in the village of Sleepy Hollow (yes, the setting for the headless horseman) in Westchester County (about 25 minutes north of NYC). Our new address is: 209 Wirth Avenue, 2nd Floor Sleepy Hollow, NY 10591 (click here for regular map) (click here for super cool satellite map) The move was particularly grueling and I wanted to thank my sister for lending me her SUV and Dan Welch for helping me move most of my stuff. I’m just glad it all over. Well, we still have to deal with the new place, unpacking, and assorted other ridiculousnesses. Hopefully everything will be ready for Molly’s arrival. Speaking of, my
